Pride of the fleet

The apparition below finally rolled into platform 1 at Stanley this afternoon, getting on for a year overdue… However, it was worth the wait: the Farish Deltic is an excellent model that really does capture the character of the prototype extremely well. Yes, the windows are a tad small, and likewise the wheels, but neither detracts when on the layout.

The Deltics were in their final years at the time when Stanley is depicted – HST’s were already making inroads into ECML expresses, and the 55’s were being demoted to Aberdeen-Edinburgh trains, just like the A4s before them. Happily, I can show either situation on Stanley – so here is a selection of pictures of 55005 at the head of an Aberdeen-London express as it pauses at Stanley…
